MGH re-accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks
Marquette
General Hospital has been granted formal re-accreditation by
the American Association of Blood Banks
(AABB) for its transfusion and donor center activities.
Though MGH has been AABB-accredited for many years, it is required
to undergo an intensive bi-yearly re-accreditation procedure to
establish that the level of medical, technical and administrative
performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards
set forth by the AABB.
“
The AABB’s accreditation procedures are voluntary,” MGH
Chief Executive Officer Bill Nemacheck explained. “Marquette
General Hospital has sought AABB accreditation because this program
assists facilities around the country in achieving excellence by
promoting a level of professional and medical expertise that contributes
to quality performance.”
The AABB is an international non-profit organization dedicated
to advancing the field of transfusion medicine and related biological
therapies. Since 1958, the AABB has been engaged in the accreditation
of blood banks and transfusion services that possess a high level
of professional proficiency.
“
A re-accreditation by the AABB proves that our lab activities and
U.P. Regional Blood
Center meet a very strident set of standards,” said
Tami Peterman, MGH blood bank supervisor who oversees lab regulatory
compliance. “The AABB truly is the gold standard of accreditation.”
