physician joins Iron County Community Hospital, MGHS
Emergency
department physician Lyle VanderSchaaf, M.D., has joined the
Emergency Department at Iron County General
Hospital, and is on staff at both Iron County Community Hospital
and Marquette General Health System.

Dr. VanderSchaaf joins two other full-time ED physicians — Drs.
Kim Mahler and Michael
Ginder — who staff Iron County Community
Hospital’s ED. Several other part-time physicians support
them. Dr.
Steven VanderRoest, a board-certified physician in emergency
medicine, serves as the Medical Director of the Emergency Departments
at both Iron County Community Hospital and Marquette General.
Iron County Community Hospital’s ED treats some 9,500 patients
per year. It functions as an urgent care center during specified
hours following physician office hours.
Board certified in family practice medicine, Dr. VanderSchaaf
has extensive emergency medicine experience. He has worked in
several
emergency departments since 1999.
Recently, he was an ED physician at Ehrling Bergquist Hospital
at the Offut Air Force Base in Nebraska. Since April 2002, he
has been working in the ED at Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council
Bluffs,
Iowa, which sees about 23,000 patients annually.
Dr. VanderSchaaf graduated from the Marquette General Health
System Family Practice Residency program. He earned his medical
degree
from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, and has an undergraduate
degree in chemistry/biology from Morningside College in Sioux
City, Iowa.
Dr. VanderSchaaf is an instructor for Adult Cardiac Life Support
(ACLS)/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and an instructor
candidate for Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
