Marquette General Health System employee earns top healthcare management credential
Donald Simila, FACHE, director of regional operations at Marquette General Health System, recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders.

Fellow status represents achievement of the highest standard of professional development. In fact, only 7,500 healthcare executives hold this distinction. To obtain Fellow status, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements including passing a comprehensive examination, meeting academic and experiential criteria, earning continuing education credits, and demonstrating professional and community involvement. Fellows are also committed to ongoing professional development and undergo re-certification every three years.
A resident of Houghton, Simila is privileged to use the FACHE credential, which signifies board certification in healthcare management and ACHE Fellow status.
A graduate of Calumet High School, Simila earned a master’s degree in social work administration and program evaluation from Michigan State University, and earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Northern Michigan University.
Simila serves a chairman of the board of directors for the Ontonagon Community Health Center. He is a board member for the West Upper Peninsula Medical Access Coalition and Chippewa Medical Associates. He is a past board member for the Michigan Health and Hospital Association – Business Advisory Council, Michigan Area Health Education Center, Keweenaw Community Foundation, BHK Head Start and the Upper Peninsula Health Plan. Simila is a former Houghton County and Keweenaw County Commissioner. He is also a former president of the Escanaba Junior Hockey Association and a former board member for the Western U.P. District Health Department.
The American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 30,000 health care executives, is known for its prestigious credentialing and educational programs.
