Marquette General Health System is one of eight 2007 AAFP/F Wyeth Immunization Award Winners
Awards Recognize Family Medicine Residency Programs That Help Protect Children by
Increasing Childhood Immunization Rates
Marquette General Health System (MGHS) was recently awarded the 2007 American Academy of Family Physicians/Foundation (AAFP/F) Wyeth Immunization Award for FamilyCare Doctors and the Marquette General Family Medicine Residency Program.
FamilyCare Doctors was chosen for the 2007 AAFP/F Wyeth Immunization Award in the category of Best Practices for its ability to develop creative solutions to increase immunization rates.
“Our strengths in maintaining and improving our childhood immunization rates are our focused physicians and staff, a commitment to the education of clinic staff and patients, and the use of a standardized, legible immunization record from the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) system,” said Dr. William Short, director of the Marquette General Family Medicine Residency Program.
The eight 2007 award winners were chosen for two award categories: Best Practices Award – overall achievement with systems already in place to overcome immunization barriers and achieve high rates in a certain time parameter; and Most Improved Award – overcoming barriers and other challenges to greatly enhance immunization rates.
The other winning programs include: Pennsylvania State University, Good Samaritan Hospital Family & Community Medicine Residency Program, Lebanon, Pa.; St. Joseph Family Medicine Practice, Milwaukee, Wis.; University of Wisconsin Health, Wausau Family Medicine Residency Program, Wausau, Wis.; Akron General Medical Center, Family Medicine Residency Program, Akron, Ohio; Carilion Health System, Family Practice Residency Program, Roanoke, Va.; Louisiana State University Health Science Center, Monroe, E.A. Conway Medical Center; Family Practice Residency Program, Monroe, La., University of South Alabama, Family Practice Residency Program, Mobile, Ala.
The AAFP/F Wyeth Immunization Awards Program recognizes family medicine residency programs for identifying and developing creative solutions to overcoming barriers to childhood immunizations, thus increasing immunization rates, and to share the best practices that have benefited the communities in which they live. Each application is reviewed and scored by a panel appointed by the AAFP/F. The program is sponsored through a grant provided by Wyeth Vaccines.
