Scope of Services

The scope of pain management is comprehensive, goal-oriented and multidisciplinary.
Upper Michigan’s Pain Evaluation and Treatment Network can quickly assess a patients needs and refer the pain patient to a proper and appropriate specialist. Core specialties may include the following:

		Anesthesiology			Oncology
		Emergency medicine			Oral surgery
		Neurology			Orthopedics
		Neuropsychology			Pain Management Specialist
		Neuroradiology			Rehabilitation
		Neurosurgery			Rheumatology
		Occupational Medicine			Substance Abuse and Addiction

* Other specialties would be recruited for applicable circumstances such as ear, nose and throat, cardiology, GI, urology, ophthalmology, OB-GYN, and internal medicine.

Admission Criteria
	The pain network will accept and refer all patients who suffer from various types of acute and chronic pain.
	Admission will be accepted from treating physicians as well as from self-referring patients who have exhausted existing resources

Once in the network, the patient can be assured that they will move swiftly through the healthcare system of providing specialists as they will be closely monitored and tracked by a pain network representative.

You are the expert in your pain! It is our goal to insure that the patient or family become the authority of the pain management program by ensuring:

	Sufficient knowledge to make informed decisions
	Sufficient resources to ask and receive answers to questions in a timely manner
	Patient and family are respected members of the pain management team and that goals of the program are the patients goals
