Marquette General Hospital's Occupational Medicine Program works for employers to promote and ensure good health for employees. A specific and individualized program is developed to fit each client's needs.

Occupational medicine includes all aspects of the relationship between workplace factors and health. This includes physical, chemical, biological, social and psychological aspects. Occupational medicine specialists evaluate and treat workplace injuries and illnesses, and render opinions as to the work-relatedness of a medical condition. Services include work-related physical examinations, surveillance exams required by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of Transportation exams, urine drug and breath alcohol testing services, and fitness-for-duty evaluations (work restrictions). Occupational medicine specialists also provide appropriate referrals.

Sports Medicine physicians specialize in sports medicine work to prevent, diagnose and rehabilitate athletic injuries. The concept of sports medicine includes medical supervision of athletes, special physical education, therapeutic exercise and exercise in the prevention of chronic degenerative disease.

Addiction Medicine involves helping individuals with chemical dependencies to live productively and drug free. Detoxification takes place in the hospital, where the patient who is dependent on drugs such as alcohol, tranquilizers, or cocaine is withdrawn from these under careful medical supervision. The patient may then enter an inpatient or outpatient program to maintain that drug free state. An aftercare program is an essential part of the program following the completion of primary treatment.
