Ultrasound
uses sound waves to image structures & blood flow characteristics.
Carotid Doppler:
images blood flow in carotid arteries that feed the brain, and locates
narrowing of carotid arteries that put the patient at risk for stroke.
Trans-Esophageal
Echocardiograms (TEE): Echocardiograms evaluate blood supply
that flows through the heart to the carotid arteries that feed the
brain. Echo can reveal clots and small growths on heart valves that
may break off and cause stroke.
Transcranial
Doppler - images the internal blood supply of the brain, and illustrates
direction of blood flow.
