Surgical Services - Marquette General Health System THERMAL ABLATION (UTERINE BALLOON THERMAL THERAPY) Thermal ablation is a safer alternative treatment of menorrhagia as compared to the traditional treatment methods of hysterectomy and endometual ablation with a roller ball. It is performed by inserting a balloon catheter into the uterus, inflating it with sterile D5W to a pressure of 160-180 mm and heated to 87 degrees C. This pressure and temperature is maintanined for an 8 minute cycle which ablates the intra uterine lining resulting in cessation of abnormal bleeding. |
