About
Neuroscience:
The Brain, Spinal Cord and Nervous System
Head
injury. Stroke. Trauma. Tremors. Tumors of the brain and
spinal cord. Numbness in the fingers or toes. Spinal
cord injuries. Headache. These are some of the
problems treated at the Upper Michigan Neuroscience Center.
Neurosciences
focus on the nervous system including the brain, spinal
cord and nerves. The electrical signals of the nervous
system move throughout the body to control movement, breathing,
heart rate, the senses, and the ability to think and remember.

Damage to the
nervous system means more than an injury needing to heal. It
could mean loss of memory, loss of control over movement, loss of
speech, or other serious changes. Our goal is to discover
problems as early as possible, begin treatment as quickly as possible,
and help patients to have the best possible quality of life in spite
of a neurological injury or illness.
From the time
a patient enters the hospital system until they are ready to leave,
an entire team of experts handles treatment. This team includes
doctors, nurses, psychologists, paramedics, technicians, therapists,
and social workers.
