Neuroradiologists
-
are radiologists who produce and interpret images of the brain
and spine. Neuroradiologists are usually needed to fully evaluate
a patient's symptoms, from headache to low back pain.
Their diagnostic
tools include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) computed tomography
(CT), and angiography
For explanations
of these tests, please see the Neuroscience
Center Imaging page.

specialist is a unique physician with specialized training in the
management of acute, chronic and cancer pain in adults.
All types of
pain are treated including:
Nerve pain;
pain relating to chronic illnesses such as diabetes; post-operative
pain lasting longer than expected; pain related to low back injury
or disease, arthritis in the low back or disk disease.
The path and
the goal:
The goal of
treatment is reducing pain to the greatest extent possible. Pain

Emergency
Physicians -
In the event of brain attack (stroke) or trauma to the brain,
spinal cord or nerves throughout the body, emergency physicians
are the first line of defense.
If stroke occurs,
emergency physicians determine whether tPA, a revolutionary clot-busting
drug should be administered.
The Emergency
Department at Upper Michigan's Regional Medical Center receives
trauma from throughout the region, and these physicians are on staff
24 hours a day every day of the year.
They also have
the resources of Advanced Life Support EMS paramedics, and a full
complement of other specialists on call at all times.
