Marquette General Brain and Spine Center

Epilepsy Clinic

The Upper Michigan Neuroscience Center and Neurology Associates of Marquette are now offering a monthly Epilepsy Clinic at Marquette General Hospital. Dr. Nihal Herath, board-certified neurologist, serves as medical director of the clinic. Dr. Herath is fellowship trained in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy. He also has post-graduate training in internal medicine, geriatrics, and neuro rehabilitation from the University of London and Wales College of Medicine, UK, respectively.

The clinic combines a thorough medical history and physical examination as well as consults by a PhD pharmacist and social worker, if needed.

Epilepsy care has improved with the introduction of new medications, treatments, and diagnostic tools such as long-term video-EEG monitoring available at Marquette General Hospital.

Epilepsy is a common neurological condition that can produce disturbances in the brain’s electrical functions. When someone has epilepsy, normal brain patterns may be interrupted by millions of intense electrical impulses that occur at the same time, producing abnormal electrical activity in the brain and resulting in a seizure.

Patients with epilepsy are encouraged to ask their physician for a referral to the Epilepsy Clinic. Referrals can be made by calling Neurology Associates of Marquette
at 1-888-886-4644 or 906-225-4840.
