Albuterol
Special Study:
The original proposal
for an Albuterol Special Study was originally submitted and approved
by the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services on
8/12/99.
It was resubmitted to
MDCIS with the inclusion of additional pharmacy procedures, training
guidelines, and protocols on 9/9/01, with approval received on 12/19/01.
This program allows the
Emergency Medical Technicians in Marquette County who are at the
Basic or Specialist level the ability to administer Albuterol to
those patients with respiratory distress or respiratory insufficiency.
The program requires
EMS services wishing to provide this level of care to submit a Letter
of Intent to the Medical Control Authority, and provide initial
Albuterol Program training to their EMS providers. The Albuterol
Program requires requires the training to be re-certified every
six months.
Use of Albuterol
is reported to the Medical Control Authority office by the service
at the time of their monthly run sheet submittal by using the Special
Study Reporting Form. The information collected for the services
is included in the Special Study Summary Report required by MDCIS.
