Publishes the Clinical Performance Measurement Directory, based on a national survey of group practices and state medical societies, with detailed information on more than 300 performance-improvement programs. Also publishes statistical information on physicians, medical groups and individual health care markets.

Offers CaduCIS Net, a free, Internet-based benchmarking tool with publicly available data on lengths of stay, mortality, and costs for hundreds of hospitals. Also provides fee-based consulting products analyzing hospitals’ proprietary data and showing how or why each one can improve.

The National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducts National Hospital Discharge Survey, a compilation of utilization statistics from approximately 500 hospitals. Also collects much broader information on specific diseases and characteristics of health care consumers.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Oakbrook Terrace, IL(630) 792-5000

Through its ORYX initiative, gathers performance measures of a hospital’s choosing in various clinical areas: for example, percentages of low birth-weight babies. Information will be collected on core measures in five areas: acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, surgical procedures and complications, and pregnancy and related conditions, from all accredited hospitals as early as 2002.

Medicode maintains comprehensive pricing databases; CHIPS compares facilities according to costs and utilization patterns, and provides industrywide almanacs and guides; and St. Anthony’s Publishing analyzes and compares coding and reimbursement data.

Offers publications and databases covering regional and national HMO statistics and metropolitan service area profiles and analyses. Also conducts specialized research projects, such as comparative data analysis on a few competing health plans or commissioned research on one organization’s performance.

Conducts annual surveys to benchmark group practice performance. The Cost Survey includes charges and revenue, practice expenses, accounts receivables, staffing ratios and collection percentages. Reports on compensation, benefits and productivity of providers, physician executives and managers.

Uses managed care transactional data to create detailed performance reports and analyses. Identifies utilization problem areas to improve quality and cost savings, and analyzes health plan contract performance to improve future contract negotiations.
