The Microbiology section of the MGHS Laboratory offers a broad selection of tests designed to isolate and identify microorganisms that cause infectious diseases. The section is under the direction of a physician who is board certified in infectious diseases and is staffed with experienced technologists that are specialized in microbiology. Our Microbiology Section offers services in bacterial identification and susceptibility testing, yeast identification, parasite identification, mycobacterial smears, Herpes group virus identification (HSV, CMV, VZ), and DNA Probe testing for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Other special microbiology services are provided to our customers through MGHS's affiliation with several national reference laboratories. Our Microbiology section participates in CAP Survey proficiency testing and is regularly inspected by the JCAHO. All questions concerning testing or specimen requirements can be directed to the MGHS Laboratory Client Service representatives, Specimen Room, Microbiology Section, or the Microbiology Section Supervisor. |
