The
MGHS Laboratory utilizes several different computer systems. The Laboratory
Information System (LIS) that we use for the core laboratory and the
microbiology section is Cerner/Citation (version 9.1). The LIS is interfaced
with the Hospital Information System (HIS) for patient registration
and billing. The LIS is used throughout Marquette General Health System
for order entry and result reporting.
Cerner / CoPath Plus provides software for the Anatomic Pathology System
for histology and cytology applications. The Transfusion/Donor Service
area uses the Hemocare Computer System.
As computers are an important component of the Upper
Peninsula Health Care Network, ongoing efforts are directed at providing
information services throughout the U.P. Region, including a Universal
Patient Data Repository. The computer network includes our MGHS Reference
Laboratory clients (hospitals, MGHS clinics, and Physician offices)
using our computer system at some level of service. QORR / UPCARE is
a web-based patient registration, test ordering, and result reporting
product.
Service and support for all MGHS computer systems is provided by the
Information Technology Department at MGHS. Dennis Maki serves as the
laboratory based manager of the LIS and provides daily operational support
and advisement.
