Tissue specimen fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin paraffin-embedded block
(FFPET).
Ambient

Bone marrow: sodium heparin
Whole blood: sodium heparin
Fresh Tissue: Hank's balanced salt solution (HBBS),
Ringer's solution or normal saline

FFPET: 10% neutral buffered formalin
Bone marrow/Whole blood: Draw into sodium heparin (green-top) tube(s), invert
several times to mix (clotted specimens can compromise results).
Maximum time from collection should be 24 hours.

Fresh tissue: Place specimen in a screw-capped, sterile container with sterile
HBBS, Ringer's solution or normal saline.  Please send the specimen immediately
after resection.  Specimen must reach the laboratory within 24 hours if time
is delayed send specimen refrigerated.

FFPET: Specimen must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin fixed paraffin-embedded
tissue block.  Optimum fixation time 12-24 hrs but not to exceed 48 hrs or be
less than 6 hrs. Maintain the specimen at room temperature.  Do not freeze.
Please provide:
(1)   Pathology Report
(2)   H & E of the fixed specimen.  Region of invasive carcinoma marked by a
pathologist on the H & E.
Limitations or Unacceptable Conditions:  Specimen fixed in fixative other than
10% neutral buffered formalin or decalcified.

Label specimen containers with the patient's name and a
unique identifying number (MGHS encounter # or MR #).

Methods
Interphase set-up and analysis of cells for ALK, BCL6, MYC, IGH; 500 cells for MYC/IGH, MALT1, BCL2/IGH and CCND1/IGH fusion. FFPET can be ordered as a panel or a la carte.

Clinical Utilities
Detection of abnormalities involving ALK, BCL6, MYC, IGH, t(8;14), t(11;14), t(11;18), and t(14;18) most commonly associated with B cell lymphoma.
