  | Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube or serum gell tube following an overnight (12-14 hour) fast. Patient must not consume any alcohol for 24 hours before the specimen is drawn. Spin down and send 0.5 mL of serum frozen in plastic vial. Note: 1. Patient's age is required on request form for processing. 2. Include information regarding treatment, family history, and tentative diagnosis. |
Clinical Utilities
Biochemical diagnoses inborn errors of mitochondrial fatty acid
oxidation, including deficiencies of medium-chain acyl-Co-A
dehydrogenase, long-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-Co-A dehydrogenase,
very long-chain acyl-Co-A dehydrogenase, and glutaricacidemia
type 2.
