  | Collect one 5 mL SST or Yellow SST, or Lavender (EDTA) tube White Top Plasma Preparation Tube (PPT) 1.0 mL (minimum volume). Primary tubes may be stored unspun at room temperature (18-30°C) for up to 4 hours. Do not refrigerate. Red, Yellow, and Lavender top tubes should be centrifuged and the plasma/serum separated from the cells within 4 hours of collection. Transfer serum/plasma aliquots to sterile polypropylene transport tubes. Freeze specimens immediately and transport to the laboratory. Serum/Plasma Stability Room Temp: 30 min Refrigerated: 2 hours Frozen (-20°C): 3 days Frozen (-70°C): 4 months White Top PPT tubes should be centrifuged within 4 hours of collection. The plasma does not have to be aliquoted into transport tubes. Specimens are stable for 24 hours at room temperature after centrifugation. If longer stability is required, freeze the entire PPT tube at or below -20°C.
