Send infecting bacteria. Bacteria should be in pure culture, placed in proper mailing container, and labelled as etiologic agent. Draw specimen 30 min after completion of infusion for intravenous dose, or 1 hour after intramuscular or oral dose. Send serum in screw capped sterile vials and on dry ice. List antibiotics Patient is receiving, organism, and culture site are required on request form for processing. Note: complete appropriate form: Inpatient: Microbiology request form.
