Collection Info |
  | See special instructions on "Coagulation Studies." 1. Draw blood in a light blue-top (citrate) tube. Spin down, remove plasma, spin plasma again, and place 1.0 mL of citrate platelet-poor plasma into 2 plastic vials each containing 0.5 mL. (Glass vials cannot be accepted.) NOTE: Double-centrifuged specimens are critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious results. 2. Freeze specimens immediately at < or = -40 degrees C, if possible. 3. Send specimens frozen on dry ice. NOTE: 1. Each coagulation assay requested should have its own separate patient vial. 2. If the patient is being treated with Coumadin, this should be noted. Coumadin will lower protein S. |

Algorithm: Protein s antigen free is performed first. If the free protein
s Antgien level is normal, results are reported for this test. If the free
protein s antigen level is abnormal, protein s antgen total is performed,
reported, and charged separately.
