Collection Info

  10 mL (pediatric 5.0 mL) from a 24-hour urine collection.  Add 25 mL 
of 50% acetic acid of 50% acetic acid as preservative at start of 
collection.  Use 15 mL of 50% acetic acid for children <5 years old.  
This preservative is intended to achieve a pH of between approximately 
2.0 and 4.0.  Send specimen refrigerated (keep specimen cool with 
frozen coolant April-October, refrigerated coolant November-March).
NOTE:  1. Patient should not eat avocados, bananas, eggplant, pine-
          apples, plums, tomatoes, or walnuts for a 48-hour
          period prior to start of collection.
       2. 24-HOUR VOLUME IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.
