SUBMIT ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS: Plasma Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s) after patient has been receiving mexiletine for at least 3 days and just before administration of the next dose. Spin down and send 3.0 mL of EDTA plasma refrigerated (keep specimen cool with frozen coolant April-October, refrigerated coolant November-March). Serum Draw blood in plain, red-top tube(s) after patient has been receiving mexiletine for at least 3 days and just before administration of the next dose. Spin down and send 3.0 mL of serum refrigerated (keep specimen cool with frozen coolant April-October, refrigerated coolant November-March). NOTE: 1. SST tube is not acceptable. 2. Indicate plasma or serum on request form. 3. Label specimen appropriately (plasma or serum). |
