Draw blood with a 19-gauge needle to avoid hemolysis in lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s). Spin down immediately, and send 2.0 mL (pediatric: 0.5 mL) of EDTA plasma refrigerated (keep specimen cool with frozen coolant April-October, refrigerated coolant November-March). NOTE: SERUM IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SPECIMEN AND WILL NOT BE TESTED. |
