Collection Info

   10 mL of amniotic fluid.  Centrifuge at 1000 rpm or 200 x g for 10
minutes, separate supernatant, and send both supernatant and sediment
frozen in separate plastic vials on dry ice.  Do not send specimens
contaminated with blood.
NOTE:  1. Include estimate of duration of pregnancy (in weeks) on
          request form.
       2. Label specimens appropropriately (sediment and supernatant).

Thin-layer Chromatography (TLC) with Quantitation by Densitometry Includes lecithin-sphingomyelin ratio (L/S), and phosphatidylglycerol (PG), semi-quantitative on amniotic fluid.
