Collection Info

  1. Collect a 24-hour urine collection.
2. Add 30 mL of 6N HCL at end of 24-hour urine collection (within 4 
     hours of completion of collection). See "Urine Preservatives" in 
     Special Instructions for multiple collections.
3. Adjust pH to 2.5-3.0 with 6N HCL and mix well before aliquot 
     is taken.
4. Send 5.0 mL of acidified specimen in a plastic, 13-mL urine tube or 
     a clean, plastic aliquot container with no metal cap or glued insert. 
     (SPECIMEN COLLECTED OR SENT IN A CONTAINER 
     WITH A METAL CAP IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.)
5. Send specimen refrigerated.
NOTE: 1. Avoid taking large doses (>2.0 g orally/24 hours) 
              of vitamin C during specimen collection.
             2.  24-HOUR VOLUME IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST
                 FORM FOR PROCESSING.
