  Specimens collected immediately before the next dose represent the TROUGH level. 
Specimens collected up to 1 hour after infusion or IM injection represent the 
PEAK level. Separate the serum immediately after clotting and freeze in polypropylene 
tubes. Serum separator tubes are not acceptable. Please label the tubes 'PEAK' 
and 'TROUGH'.

Collection Notes
Red top serum separator tubes are not acceptable.  Specimens
from patients on other antibiotics must be frozen.  Specimens
collected just before or within 15 minutes of the next antibiotic
dose represent the TROUGH levels.  Specimens obtained 15-30
minutes after the end of IV infusion, 45-60 minutes after
an IM injection or 90 minutes after oral intake represent
the PEAK level.  Freeze specimens at -20 C and ship
to Specialty on dry ice by overnight courier.
Please label tubes "PEAK" and "TROUGH."
