Collection Info

  Inpatient:
     Place specimen in clean stool container.
Reference lab:
     Place specimen in formalin and PVA transport tubes and mix specimens with 
preservative.
     Do not overfill.  It is recommended that 3 specimens should be collected one 
a day for 3 days.  
     If microspordium is suspected it must be indicated on request form.
     If trichrome smear is desired it must be indicated on the request form.

No ova and parasites seen.

Component Information

Collection Notes
Ova and parasite concentration is routinely done on appropriate specimens.  
A trichrome smear is done when a specific request is made on the order form 
or when it is necessary to further identify a protozoa seen in the routine microscopic 
exam.

Additional Comments
10% Formalin and PVA collection kits are available upon request from the Marquette General Hospital Laboratory Microbiology Section.
