Collection Info

  Spin  specimen with a Sure-Sep II or spindown, remove plasma, and spin plasma 
again.  Place plasma in plastic vial and freeze immediately.
      A.  Sure-Sep II or double centrifuging specimens are critical for accurate 
results as platelet
           contamination may cause spurious results.
      B.  Patient should be off heparin and or oral anticoagulant therapy for 
at least 10 days
                 prior to testing.
 
Specimen Acceptability

Methods
Photo optical clot detection. Patient's plasma is initially screened with a PT, INR, PTT, and Thrombin time to see what mixing studies are necessary. When indicated, a pathologist interpretative comment will be attached.

Clinical Utilities
Detection of specific inhibitors directed to a single coagulation factor and non-specific inhibitors such as lupus anticoagulants.
