Clinical Utilities
Confirmatory testing by RIBA is only recommended when the MEIA screen is 'weakly positive' (i.e. S/CO <10.0). RIBA results are reported as positive, indeterminate or negative in this assay and specific bands are reported. Patients with positive HCV antibodies by MEIA should be evaluated with a sensitive qualitative nucleic acid test for HCV RNA to rule out active infection.
