Clinical Utilities
Aid in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma, and germinal neoplasms of the testis, ovary, retroperitoneum, and mediastinum; differential diagnosis of neonatal hepatitis versus biliary atresia in newborns. Also useful in the intrauterine diagnosis of anencephaly, spina bifida, myelomeningocele, and other neural tube defects, fetal death, esophageal atresia, congenital nephrosis, and multiple pregnancy. High in some cases of massive hepatic necrosis, acute hepatitis, chronic active hepatitis.
