SPS stable for 4 hours and Redox bottles 24 hours ambient. Inpatient: Adult: Routine Two, 10 mL SPS yellow top vacutainers or 5 mL in Redox 1 and 5 mL in Redox 2 blood culture bottles. Pediatric: One, 3 mL SPS yellow top vacutainers or 100 ul to 1 mL in Redox 1 and Redox 2 blood culture bottles. NOTE: Indicate Time, date, and site of draw. Indicate on request form any antibiotics the patient is on when order is placed. Order a blood culture draw. This will allow the lab phlebotomy staff to go to draw cultures. It is recommended blood cultures be ordered at least x2 in adults. Reference Lab and Outpatient clinics : Media for blood cultures are available from the MGH laboratory. Adult: 5 mL in Redox 1 and Redox 2 Blood culture bottles. Pediatric: 100 uL - 3 mL in Redox 1 and Redox 2 Blood culture bottles. Draw Redox 1 first and if unable to obtain Redox 2, the single Redox1 is acceptable. |
