Acceptable specimens: Urethral, vaginal or
cervical swabs, urine (urethritis), abscess contents, prostatic
secretions, semen, placenta, fetal tissue from spontaneous abortion
or stillbirths, endometrial washings or tissue biopsy, fallopian tube
tissue (infertility, endometritis or spontaneous abortion),
respiratory specimens (sputum, washings or aspirates). Do not use
swabs with wooden shafts. Place the swab or collected material in
M4 Transport Medium (available from Specialty). Collect urine in a
sterile, leakproof container. Centrifuge urine at 2000 rpm, discard
supernatant, resuspend pellet in M4 Transport Medium. Ship to
Specialty within 24 hours of collection on cold pack.
