Acceptable specimens are nasopharynx or throat swab or washing,
tracheal aspirate, sputum.
Obtain M4 Transport Medium from Specialty. Dacron-tipped
and calcium alginate swabs are acceptable and available from
Specialty Client Services, 800-421-4449. Do not use swabs
with wooden shafts.
1. For respiratory specimens (sputum, washing or aspirate) inoculate
M4 transport medium with 0.5 - 1.0 mL of respiratory specimen.
Place swabs directly into transport vial.
2. Ship to Specialty within 24 hours of collection on cold pack.
