The recipient of a successful kidney transplant, MGH housekeeping employee Dan McCarthy of Marquette is a happy, thankful man.

"I'd like to thank all the businesses that have donated money," Dan said. "I really appreciate it."

Dan is alluding to the recent benefit spaghetti dinner held on his behalf at the Moose Lodge in Marquette. The event raised more than $5,000, helping Dan with expenses incurred in traveling to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to receive a kidney transplant.

"The place was crowded," Dan said. "I appreciate the many people who bought tickets to help me."

Dan has regained much of the weight he lost prior to undergoing the transplant. At the time of the surgery, Dan weighed 97 pounds. He's now carrying 159.

"I feel good," said Dan, who admits it was a blessing to have received his transplant on Good Friday. "I still get infections, but I'm doing good."

Because of those infections, it's unlikely Dan will return to work at MGH.

Nevertheless, let's continue to keep Dan in our thoughts and prayers.

Best of luck, Dan!
