If you see a man walking down the hall with a Teddy Bear kind-of-smile, chances are it's Ken Shipley. |
A custodian in the Housekeeping Department, Ken is celebrating his 28-year anniversary this month in working at MGH. He's one of 75 people being recognized this month for longevity.
Ken takes great pride in ensuring that the halls and stairs -- in the Administrative Building, St. Luke's Building and '84 Building -- are in tip-top shape.
"I enjoy it," said Ken, a perpetual smile beaming off his face. "I enjoy the people I work with."
Ken's wife, Carol, also works in Housekeeping. She's working on her 28th year at MGH.
In his nearly three decades at MGH, Ken said two events stand out:
"When the sewer backed up in the cafeteria five or six years ago, and the fire in the '81 Building stairwell. I remember getting called in to clean it up," he said.
He said he'd like to retire in four years.
