Care -
Hospice
provides spiritual, emotional and medical support for
patients in the final stages of life-limiting illnesses.
What
is Hospice
Our Hospice Care Team
How
is the cost covered?
Our caregivers are friends and neighbors
from your local area who bring you professional and personal care.
Hospice.
. .
is a special way of caring for patients and families coping with
life-limiting illness. Those needs can be met with the compassion
and expertise of Marquette General Home Health & Hospice. Professionals
and volunteers are available to help you and your family during
this time.
Our
philosophy
as a hospital-based home care agency is to enhance the quality
of life for all the patient's remaining days. We provide comfort,
emotional support, spiritual guidance, and connection with the patient
and family's strengths and experiences.
Close interaction
with the Upper Michigan Cancer Center at Marquette General Hospital
enables us to bring hospital quality care home to you. Our experience
gives us special insight into the emotional needs of the patient
and family.
Who
should seek hospice care?
If the diagnosis
has been accepted and no further curative treatment is being sought,
then hospice can offer spiritual, emotional and medical support.
How
can hospice care help?
Our goal is
to meet your needs:
Physical, emotional,
social and spiritual. Because we have experience in helping others,
we can ease physical discomfort, provide companionship, help you
understand what to expect, find the right resources to fulfill the
patient's wishes, and give needed support to family and friends.
Hospice understands the changes and adjustments that a life-limiting
illness presents to families and patients.
Who
is the hospice care team?
Many people
with a variety of skills work together for the benefit of the patient
and loved ones, and hospice uses a team approach to coordinate care.
A feeling of harmony grows when patients and families share
their feelings and participate in care.
Our
hospice team includes:
| >> |
Skilled
care by an RN
who coordinates the care of each patient, communicates with
the physician, provides direct patient care, evaluates the patient's
condition, checks symptoms and medications, and provides patient
and family education. |
| >> |
Home
care aides and homemakers who
provide personal care for the patient, such as bathing, shampooing,
shaving and nail care, light housekeeping and meal preparation. |
| >> |
Social
workers
who provide counseling to the patient and family and assist
in understanding family relationships. |
| >> |
The
patient's personal physician
who directs the plan of care and works closely with the hospice
team. |
| >> |
Registered
dietitians who
provide nourishing meal plans and special dietary assistance
in making food look appealing. |
| >> |
Clergy
and other counselors
who visit and provide spiritual support to the terminally ill
at home. Members of the patient's church family are also important
in offering support. |
| >> |
Volunteers
with special training who visit, listen and provide compassionate
support for both patients and loved ones. |
What
about hospitalization and respite care?
From time to
time the patient may be admitted to a hospital or extended care
facility because of medical necessity or to provide relief for family
members.
Marquette General
Home Health & Hospice can arrange for this care and remain in
close contact with both the patient and family, resuming care at
home when the time is right.
Brief, in-home
respite care can allow the primary care giver to get away for a
few hours to run errands or for needed quiet time.
How
is the cost of hospice covered?
Reimbursement
for services may come from Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance
carriers. We work closely with clients in determining availablity
of coverage. If no coverage is available, we will work with you
in developing an acceptable payment plan.
Licensed by
the State of Michigan and certified by Medicare, Marquette General
Home Health and Hospice provides the gold standard in home care.
Marquette General
Home Health and Hospice does not discriminate on the basis of race,
color, national origin, handicap, gender or age.
As
time passes, what can we expect?
The time may
come when the patient's needs require, or the family can no longer
manage to provide, the level of care required around the clock.
Volunteer assistance is available for a variety of services, including
respite for the family, companionship, transportation, errands and
meal preparation.
Hospice understands
the changes and adjustments that life-limiting illness presents
to families and patients.
What
about bereavement support?
Grieving the
loss of a loved one is a natural part of healing. Bereavement support
assists family members by offering care and counseling to help them
adjust to the loss of a loved one.
