Walk in the Park event to raise money for the
Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center

The Fourth Annual Walk in the Park for Brain Tumor Research will be held Saturday, June 14, at Ludington Park in Escanaba.

All proceeds from this fundraising activity benefit the Marquette General Foundation, and are earmarked exclusively for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center (UMBTC) at Marquette General Hospital. The UMBTC is a non-profit care, treatment and research organization serving patients and families throughout the Upper Peninsula.

Money raised at last year’s walk helped fund a research project on a new treatment for malignant brain tumors, which was recently presented by two UMBTC graduate students at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

The event has been bringing together those affected by brain tumors since 2005. This year, two Escanaba-area families are partnering to put on the walk – the families of Don McInnis and Sue Anderson, who both lost their lives to brain tumors.

People of all ages are welcome to walk a two-mile loop along the lake, or follow their own path as they are able. Kids may bring their bikes, scooters, skates or skateboards and participate in the Kids' Ride. Registration ($25 for adults, $10 for children) will be available on a walk-in basis at the event.

Check-in begins at 9 a.m. at the Ludington Park shelter. The walk begins at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Registration/donation forms and more information are available on-line at www.eskywalkinthepark.com, or by calling Anne McInnis at 312-925-0777, or Laurie (Anderson) Moberg at 906-399-7456.
