Walk in the Park
Annual fundraiser for brain cancer to be held Saturday in Escanaba

The Fifth Annual Walk in the Park for Brain Tumor Research will be held Saturday, June 20, at Ludington Park in Escanaba. All proceeds from this fund-raising activity benefit the Marquette General Foundation, and are earmarked exclusively for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center (UMBTC) at Marquette General Hospital.
The UMBTC is a non-profit care, treatment and research organization serving patients and families throughout the U.P.

Annual fundraiser for brain cancer to be held in Escanaba
Walk in the Park 2008 set a record with over 100 walkers

The event has been bringing those affected by brain tumors together since 2005. Two Escanaba-area families are partnering to put on the walk — the families of Don McInnis and Sue Anderson, who both lost their lives to brain tumors. Last year, the event raised more than $6,500 for the UMBTC, and a cumulative total of $22,000 toward brain tumor research since the walk began.

People of all ages are welcome to walk a two-mile loop along the lake, or follow their own path as they are able. Kids may bring their bikes, scooters, skates, and skateboards, with helmets, and participate in the Kids' Ride. Walkers may indulge in home-baked goods at the bake sale, and participate in a balloon release in honor of a loved one.

Registration will be available on a walk-in basis at the event. On-site fees are $25 for adults and $10 for children 15 and under. To register or for more information, go to www.eskywalkinthepark.com, or call Amy (McInnis) Norkus at (269) 383-8588, or Laurie (Anderson) Moberg at (906) 399-7456. Check-in June 20 begins at 9 a.m. at pavilion in the middle of Ludington Park. The walk starts at 10 a.m., rain or shine.
