Crystal and Craig felt helpless when their little boy’s injury exploded into a medical emergency.
Jayden, just 19 months, fell off a chair and onto a ceramic tile floor, splitting his tongue. His parents became very worried when Jayden’s tongue progressively swelled, making it nearly impossible for him to drink or eat anything. His parents called Marquette General and were told to bring him in. He was operated on in an hour. Two days later, he was eating grapes and a hotdog with genuine gusto.
Jayden’s parents applauded the caring, compassionate Emergency Room and Operating Room physicians and staff who were so kind and gentle with a frightened and upset little boy.

Jayden’s family is well aware non-profit hospitals, like Marquette General, are partially supported through gifts. Fees do not cover everything, particularly when there are people who need help and will be helped but have no ability to pay.
Last year, Marquette General provided care to more than 12,000 inpatients and 350,000 outpatients a year regardless of their financial situation. The number of uninsured patients has increased dramatically in the past two years. Marquette General will provide nearly $3 million in direct charity care to patients this year alone.
