Please consider the Foundation in your end-of-year giving

The traditional season for charitable giving varies around the world and from culture to culture.

Patrick J. Bray -
President

Here in the U.P., and across our country, we have an incredibly strong tradition of making charitable gifts as each year draws to its close. While some may point to the charitable gift income tax deduction as the reason giving jumps so dramatically in November and December, I don’t believe that idea comes close to capturing the heartfelt desire to help others that motivates these gifts. We give so much in these two months because of the many holiday traditions so many of us grew up celebrating.

These joyous times remind us and encourage us to think of how we can reach out and help others in our community and around the world. We do what we can to help through giving of our time and our money. Both are needed and appreciated by all the organizations which receive our gifts.

As you think about your giving this year, please consider including Marquette General in your plans. So many grateful patients, their families, and loved ones have shown their appreciation for the truly wonderful care that is provided to our families, friends and neighbors every day. All of us, the ones closest to this organization who do so much for our community, can also help enhance that care with a charitable gift.

We have shared here throughout the last year stories of recent gifts that have helped enhance patient care at MGH. Gifts have allowed the caring nurses in the Heart Center to monitor patients through a new, state-of-the-art telemetry unit; many of the littlest patients of MGH benefited from the warm, healing embrace of a new Giraffe Omnibed given to the NICU; families and visitors were able to reach out to loved ones around the country with news and updates through the donation of computers with Internet access that are now in almost every family waiting area; and the many patients who come to our Hemodialysis Unit are benefiting from the wonderful gifts that allowed MGH to purchase five new state-of-the-art dialysis machines.

Your gift, too, can be directed to a particular project like those listed above or it can be given to support a most critical need as directed by the Foundation’s volunteer Board of Directors. Please call the Foundation at 225-6914 or stop in to see us if you have a gift idea you’d like to talk with us about. Please also take the time to visit our website at www.mgh.org/foundation.

From the Foundation Team, we wish you and yours a very joyous and safe Holiday Season – and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
