1. What is the Marquette General Foundation?

The Marquette General Foundation is a separate legal entity from
Marquette General Health System. The purpose of the Marquette
General Foundation is to raise funds in support of Marquette
General Health System.

2. What are the Foundation’s mission and vision?

We develop resources and build enduring partnerships resulting in
life-saving advancements and improved health for the people of the
Upper Peninsula.

3. Why is the Marquette General Foundation needed?

Marquette General Hospital provides health care to all patients,
regardless of ability to pay for those services. In 2006 alone, Marquette
General Health System provided more than $14 million in
uncompensated care (no reimbursement received) to people of the
Upper Peninsula. Gifts to Marquette General Foundation will help
provide care to all the people in the U.P., as well as help to fund the
most advanced medical care and technology including enhancing
existing centers of excellence and developing new centers of
excellence and building a permanent endowment.

4. Why should I give to the Marquette General Foundation?

A gift to the Marquette General Foundation is an investment in the
health and well-being of people like you in our region! Every
contribution helps meet the healthcare needs of today and prepares
us for the demands of tomorrow. You can honor a Marquette
General caregiver, whether a nurse, a physician, volunteer or any
other person who has helped you or a family member through a
gift to the Marquette General Grateful Patients and Families
Program. You can celebrate good health, a birth, a memorable or
special occasion, or memorialize the passing of a loved one by
making your gift to the Marquette General Foundation today. With

5. How can I be sure that my donations will be used for the purposes for
which they were given?


Marquette General Foundation strictly follows the Donor Bill of Rights, which
ensures that donors can have full confidence “that their gifts will be used
for the purposes for which they were given.” A copy of the Donor Bill of
Rights is posted on the MGF web site and is also available from the
Foundation Office. Restricted gifts are assigned to accounts consistent with
donor wishes to be used by that program only. Unrestricted gifts are placed
into the Foundation general account to be used as directed by the Foundation
Board according to the strategic plan. Endowed gifts are placed in investment
accounts; and only the interest from these accounts are used and the principal
remains preserved.

6. How are Foundation funds accounted for and invested?

Restricted gifts given to specific areas are assigned to accounts consistent
with the donor wishes to be used by that program only. Unrestricted gifts
are placed into the Foundation general account to be used as directed by
the Foundation Board according to the strategic plan. Endowed gifts are
placed in investment accounts. Only the interest from these accounts is
used in the area designated by the donor and the principal remains preserved.
The Marquette General Foundation is audited annually by an independent
auditing firm.

7. What are the tax advantages of giving to the Marquette General
Foundation?


The Marquette General Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) charitable
organization and gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible to the fullest
extent of the law. The Marquette General Foundation staff is available to
work with donors to identify the most advantageous option(s) tailored to
each individual donor.

8. What is a planned gift?

Planned giving consists of gifts such as life insurance, bequests and trusts
that will ultimately assist Marquette General while helping a donor
achieve his or her personal financial goals today.



9. How can I become involved in the Marquette General Foundation?

The Marquette General Foundation welcomes feedback and
offers a number of opportunities for people to contribute,
participate and partner in meaningful and satisfying ways. We
