Compass Certificate Program

The Compass Certificate is a wilderness emergency and sports medicine program. This optional curriculum is above and beyond required medical school coursework and is designed to better prepare graduates to care for patients sustaining wilderness or sports-related injuries away from the hospital setting. Training includes:

  • ·​Participation in the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) course through the National Ski Patrol
  •  Weekend mountain travel and rescue experience through the National Ski Patrol
  •  Didactic sessions and lectures on topics related to sports, wilderness or emergency medicine
  •  4-week elective rotation in wilderness, emergency or sports medicine
  •  80 service learning/volunteering hours over 3rd and 4th years
  • Attendance at ACLS, PALS and ATLS courses, as available​
