Marquette Family Medicine Residency Current Residents

FIRST YEAR RESIDENTS – CLASS OF 2020

Victoria Bobik, MD

Medical School:
American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine

Undergraduate:
BA in Biology, University of Delaware, Newark DE

Why I chose Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
I wanted a program where I could get training treating underserved, rural populations, while still seeing a good number of patients. I liked that MGH is a smaller program with a lot of individual and hands-on teaching opportunities, yet the hospital is large enough that we will see a large variety of medical problems. I felt that the program allowed the residents to pursue their own interests if they wished and that there are plenty of opportunities to perform procedures.

Professional Interests:
I am keeping my options open, but as of now, I would like to work as an outpatient doctor in a full-scope clinic. I am still working on narrowing down my interests.

Hobbies/Interests outside of work?
I enjoy traveling to new places, playing soccer, and cooking new recipes

Hometown:

Dexter Clark, DO

Name & Medical School:
Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine

Undergraduate:
BA in Physics, Northern Michigan University, Marquette MI

Why I chose Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
I liked the thought of being able to “do everything” from acute to chronic care and across the age spectrum, thus family medicine was right for me.  Marquette offered a unique combination of an unopposed program at a regional referral facility, with the side benefit of being where my family considers home.  The residency program invests much time and care into developing residents as a whole physician, and it showed when I rotated here as a student.

Professional Interests:
Emergency, wilderness/austere, and osteopathic manipulative medicine.

Hobbies/Interests outside of work?
Spending time with family – generally enjoying what the UP has to offer.

Hometown:

Cara Crawford-Bartle, MD

Medical School:
Wayne State University, School of Medicine

BS in Communication Studies, Northern Michigan University, Marquette MI

Why I chose Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
I chose the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program for the opportunity to provide healthcare within a tertiary care center in a beautiful rural community in an unopposed residency program, as well as for the freedom to tailor my training and pursue my additional interests within and outside of healthcare.

Professional Interests:
Women's health, pediatrics, mental health, political advocacy

Hobbies/Interests outside of work?
Outside of work I like to run, mountain bike, snowboard, downhill ski, and, most of all, spend time with my husband and kids.

Why I chose Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
With a love of family medicine naturally comes a love of variety - variety in acuity of patients, in breadth of experience, and in depth of medicine. Training in such an environment maximizes education while it fosters fascination. Maintaining wonder toward the art of medicine is vitally important. The Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program encourages wonder by offering opportunities in all of these, and it offers them with a proximity not easily replicated.

Professional Interests:
Part of the beauty of family medicine is not needing to choose professional interests.  Niches are naturally carved over time, and with their development will come definition.  That being said, I find particular intrigue in mental health and pediatrics.

Hobbies/Interests outside of work?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter.  I admit my family and I are beginning to fall in love with the Marquette outdoors.  Additionally, I enjoy cooking and reading for pleasure, with a preference for smoked meats and dystopian fiction.

Why I chose Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
I chose Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program for a few reasons. I had come here for my clinical years as a medical student and really enjoyed the area, the people in the hospital, and the degree of experiences I had was excited to continue with those opportunities. I also have spent a great deal of my education here in the UP and as a result my husband has been living and working here while I have been in training – it seemed like a natural choice.

Professional Interests:
I am interested in both adult, pediatric, and geriatric medicine. I plan to practice in an outpatient setting when I have completed residency, but I would still like to keep my toes in some inpatient medicine

Hobbies/Interests outside of work?
I try to spend as much time outside of work with my husband, Scott, and our cat, Taffy. We do many outdoor things including hiking, camping, backpacking, and snowshoeing. I am willing to try anything outdoors at least once; I have a goal to start cross-country skiing before I’ve graduated from residency. I also enjoy reading, photography, and board games (my husband and I have a very large collection of different games). When we get the chance to, we also love to do swing dancing.
