Emergency
Medical Technician – Basic Matriculation Course
This 160-hour
course expands the Medical First Responder role into that of the
EMT-Basic. You will be taught an advanced role in patient care,
the use of additional patient care equipment, how to administer,
as well as, assist with administration of patient’s medications,
and how to operate an emergency vehicle.
Student’s
who successfully complete the EMT-Basic Matriculation course at
Marquette General Health System’s School of Emergency Medical
Technology are trained to a level that exceeds either the state
or national curriculum.
When you arrive
at the scene of an emergency, you must be able to think quickly,
critically, and appropriately. Your patient’s life may depend
on it. You will be taught critical thinking skills, often necessary
during rescue operations or the routine transfer of a patient between
medical facilities, their home or other destinations.
You will be
trained to recognize and treat both medical and traumatic life threatening
injuries. Utilizing equipment such as: the Combitube, Traction Splint,
Extrication Devices, Splints, Automated External Defibrillators,
and a wide array of other emergency medical equipment.
The program
will consist of both didactic and practical training hours, to include
clinical training with EMS agencies, Emergency Department Staff,
Respiratory Therapists, Neonatal, Critical and Intensive Care Nursing
Staff, Emergency Services Dispatch Staff, as well as, a host of
other allied health care staff.
If you are interested
in attending an EMT-Basic course, the classes will begin August
15, 2006 through March 15, 2007. Applications will be accepted until
August 04, 2006.
