Mission -

The Emergency Medical Service Department of Marquette General Health System provides Advanced Life Support pre hospital and inter hospital emergency treatment and transportation to victims of severe illness. Services are provided to residents of Marquette County and across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

SCOPE OF SERVICE

 

The Emergency Medical Services Department is comprised of four licensed Advanced Life Support ambulances, staffed by licensed Paramedics which provide 24-hour care to patients who are in need of immediate emergency or non-emergency treatment and transportation. EMS also provides a Basic Life Support transfer service and a Critical Care transport service.

Patients range from infancy through geriatrics who have trauma, environmental, behavioral, medical, obstetrics or gynecological emergencies.

 

Patient care and other services are provided in compliance with Department of Consumer and Industry Services regulations and Marquette County E.M.S. Medical Control Authority protocols. Compliance is also maintained with all other applicable regulations including but not limited to JCAHO, OSHA/MIOSHA, OBRA/COBRA, DEA, Fire Codes, the Michigan Complied Laws, the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code, and the policies of the E.M.S. Department and Marquette General Health Systems.

 

Medical Control is provided on-line by a Medical Director who promulgates and approves protocols, reviews all runs, and assures continuous quality assurance and improvement consistent with the departmental plan. Medical Control is provided on-line by Board-Certified and/or ATLS and ACLS certified Emergency Physicians 24 hours a day by means of cellular-based telemetry VHF/HEAR radio, UHF patient side portable radios and dedicated land-line systems.

 

E.M.S. participates in the Marquette County Central Dispatch System utilizing the 911 emergency number for maximum access to care. Emergency medical services are provided to any person without prior inquiry as to ability to pay or source of payment.

Other services provided by E.M.S. are elective and emergency inter facility transfers, neonatal transfers, coordination of fixed-wing and rotary-wing air transfers, hospital security, psychiatric crisis intervention, hospital I.V. team, in-hospital cardiac resuscitation team, and in hospital fire response.
