X-rays were taken of Nazca mummy remains and bundles 2000 years old to give a history of the mummies, look for Harris Lines of bone, pathologies, and what was inside of the mummy bundles. Additional artifacts such as pottery and musical instruments were also radiographed. All images taken were given to the museums to keep on record. The field study provided the students a hands on experience with radiographing fragile mummy artifacts, hand processing of radiographic images, learning about the history of another culture, and the real time experience of working with another culture different from one's own.

MGHS Radiologic Assistant Technologist Internship

The Radiologic Assistant Technologist Internship Program at Marquette General

Internships are said to be the best way to learn what it is like in an industry. What better way to get career-related experience, supervision by a professional in the field, and an opportunity for hands-on responsibility. Internships allow students to gain experience that normally would not be reached until after graduation; provide an opportunity for students to decide what path they would like to take in a profession; and are valuable field experience to place on a resume.

Today, it takes more than a degree from an institution to gain employment in your career of choice. Internships have become a necessary part of a student's professional development before entering the full-time workforce. Employers want to know what prospective workers can bring to the table and look for internships in a student’s background for hiring and selection decisions. The benefits of hiring an internship student are many and include:

Access to quality talent
Opportunity to test and select persons with desired abilities
Advantage of previewing the skills of students in consideration for permanent  employment upon graduation
Flexibility of having personnel within your organization available
Avoiding costs associated with marketing, advertising, and recruitment
Decreased orientation of new hire

Students who wish to gain this competitive edge when entering the job market should consider an internship.

The Radiologic Assistant Technologist (RAT) Program at Marquette General is designed to enrich qualified senior radiography student's educational experiences by integrating didactic studies with work experience in their major : medical imaging. The RAT Program at Marquette General provides its internists the opportunity to work individually or as a team member while building critical thinking skills, confidence, and competency. A radiologic assistant technologist at MGHS gains experience in: routine radiography, fluoroscopy, trauma imaging, computed tomography, and mobile radiography including: NICU, ICU, and CCU imaging.

The MGHS assistant radiographer internship program has prospered for twenty-five years, due in large part to the active interest and participation of Marquette General and the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Radiologic assistant technologists at MGHS besides given the opportunity to grow professionally are provided a nominal wage, which many students use to offset their other educational costs.
