Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent

A child and adolescent psychiatrist is an expert in the normal and abnormal emotional development of children. Patients are referred directly from family physicians, pediatricians, schools and by families. A child and adolescent psychiatrist treats children and teenagers with behavioral problems; changes in personality, mood or academic performance; social withdrawal symptoms or concerns about drug and alcohol abuse. Treatment may consist of individual, family or group psychotherapy; medication therapy; hospitalization or further medical evaluation.
