Intensivist

Intensivists complete specialty training in the practice of critical care medicine. They serve as team leaders in the intensive care unit, integrating and titrating the care of patients with complex illness including multi-system organ failure. Medical, surgical or traumatic illness may require intensive care, including the use of ventilators and other support equipment. Intensivists promote quality care in the intensive care unit and the efficient use of critical care resources. They may provide these services as the patients' attending physician or as a physician providing concurrent care in close collaboration with the patient's attending physician.
