Nuclear Medicine Update -

06-22-2009

As you are probably already aware, nuclear imaging services may have been interrupted in your community due to the worldwide shortage of Molybdenum. Technetium, a daughter isotope of Molybdenum, is the critical component for 90% of nuclear imaging exams.

Marquette General has been receiving a generator (Moly) and is still capable of performing all the requested nuclear medicine exams. We expect no interruption in service until July 12, 2009. We are unsure after this date as to whether we will be receiving any further generators until the Danish nuclear reactor comes back on-line. We’ve been told this reactor is estimated to be back on-line sometime in August or September.

We will continue to update you through this website as to any changes that occur in the upcoming months on isotope availability. Should you have any questions or would like to schedule an exam, please feel free to call the Nuclear Medicine department at 906-225-3545.
