PIER
Consult the Experts
Physicians' Information and Education Resource (PIER) is a Web-based
decision-support tool designed for rapid point-of-care delivery of
current,
evidence-based guidance for clinicians. Developed by the American College
of Physicians (ACP), PIER consists of modules focusing on the diagnosis
and
treatment of hundreds of the most common diseases, with additional
disease
topics added monthly. Information in PIER is presented in a "drill
down"
format, in which the user clicks from an opening guidance statement
for
more specific information.
PIER is a collection of modules divided into five topic types: Diseases,
Screening and Prevention, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Ethical
and Legal Issues, Procedures.

Independent Research Indicates UpToDate Having Impact
In 2003 leading institutions conducted independent research on the
subject of electronic information resources. We were pleased to see
that the studies indicate that UpToDate is the clinician’s resource
of choice and is changing the way patients are managed. For more information
on these studies see http://www.uptodate.com/press_release/040204_milestone.asp.

We are pleased to announce two new enhancements to your Ovid MEDLINE
subscription:
Ovid OLDMEDLINE®
Citations in Ovid OLDMEDLINE are for articles from international biomedical
journals covering the fields of medicine, preclinical sciences, and
allied health sciences; all were originally printed in hardcopy indexes
published from 1951 through 1965.
The NLM® expects to continue converting citations from its older
printed medical indexes to machine-readable form as time and resources
permit. As they make these records available to Ovid, we will continue
to add them to the OLDMEDLINE database.
The Ovid OLDMEDLINE database will appear by default on the database
list and will be available to Ovid MEDLINE online users.
Ovid MEDLINE Subject Limits
Ovid MEDLINE now includes new limits based on PubMed's subject subsets
(online only). The addition of these subsets allows users to easily
restrict a broad search to their specific area of interest.
AIDS
Bioethics
Cancer
Complementary Medicine
History of Medicine
Space Life Sciences
Systematic Reviews
Toxicology
Ovid has duplicated the PubMed subject subset searches as closely as
possible. There can, however, be differences in the number of records
retrieved between the Ovid and PubMed subject subset searches.
